Institutul de Cercetare-Dezvoltare pentru Protecția Plantelor este o unitate de cercetare-dezvoltare de drept public și de utilitate publică în subordinea Academiei de Științe Agricole și Silvice ”Gheorghe Ionescu Șișești”, fiind înființat prin HG nr. 1881/2005 privind înființarea unor institute și centre de cercetare-dezvoltare agricolă prin reorganizarea unor institute, centre, stațiuni și societăți comerciale de cercetare și producție agricolă – Anexa 11 și reorganizat în baza Legii 45/2009 privind organizarea și funcționarea Academiei de Științe Agricole și Silvice ”Gheorghe Ionescu Șișești” și a sistemului de cercetare-dezvoltare din domeniile agriculturii, silviculturii și industriei alimentare modificată și completată prin Legea 72/2011, Anexa 2 / 2.10.
